There’s many ways to celebrate a big lotto victory – throwing a party for your friends and family, buying a round of drinks in your favourite pub, taking a vacation of your dreams or… cutting ties with your romantic partner. No, you’re not reading it wrong! A new study revealed that 25% of people in the UK would be happy to ditch their significant other for a lottery prize of impressive value.
Ahead of the Euromillions Superdraw last week, a study has been conducted exploring the effects that the big cash reward would have on the morality of Brits who are currently in a romantic relationship. The research has led to the shocking results, since 25% participants said they would be ready to leave their other half if a £100.000 windfall was at stake. One in 50 Brits would even be ready to ditch their spouse for less than £50.000

“Everyone has their price, and it’s something that most couples will have at least considered in jest – ‘What would it take to break us up?’ In that sense our findings are quite reassuring,” said the spokesperson of the website that carried out the research.
Even though these findings seem quit alarming, the study has also found that 10% of people would use the money to improve their partner. Some said they would do it by investing money into plastic surgeries and gym memberships, which would make their loved ones more attractive, or buy them new clothes that would make them “easier on the eye”. For some of the participants in the survey, improvement wouldn’t focus on the physical apperance of their spouse, but on their mental state – one in ten people said they would check their spouse into counselling after snatching a major prize.
